The original serial number, still present in the attached dump, is C02HD0QRDW47. Why does it detect the number as blank when it's changed? A dump of the ROM is attached if that helps anyone. I then went back to the file I modified, changed the serial back to the original, wrote it back to the ROM, and when I booted it, it detected it just fine and worked exactly like it did before. I tried Blank Board Serializer to write the number that way, but it just had an error and wouldn't do anything. The discussion is about Apple serial number for Seagate hard drive, not Seagate's (take a look on red square in image). I contacted Apple service and got comment, that problem was with hard drives, that had 13 numbers in serial number.
The program now is expired and it's impossible to find out, whether they had hard drives, that very easily may fail or not.
After multiple hard drive failures we have found out, that most of our iMacs had defective Seagate Hard Drives, which Apple provided replacement program. I have a situation with iMacs in company I'm working. The question - how, without opening iMac - using Terminal, can I find out, what Apple's serial number is on my Seagate hard drive?
